JR IV vs K8/SD501DX — A Different Cleaning Method

The Leveluk JR IV is cleaned differently from the larger models. Instead of an automatic E-Cleaning cycle, the JR IV requires manual soaking in an E-Cleaner N solution. It is a straightforward procedure — all you need is a cup and a sachet of powder.

Cleaning Method Comparison

ModelMethodPowderTime
Leveluk K8Automatic E-Cleaning (touchscreen)2 sachets + 350 ml~3 hours
Leveluk SD501DXAutomatic E-Cleaning (hold button 3 sec.)2 sachets + 370 ml~3 hours
Leveluk JR IVSoaking in a cup (E-Cleaner N)1 sachet + 200 ml3–5 hours

JR IV Advantage: The soaking method is simpler and requires no menu navigation or device settings. Just prepare the solution, submerge the hose and wait. The ideal ionizer for those who value ease of use.

JR IV Cleaning — Step-by-Step Guide

The E-Cleaner N method involves soaking the ionizer's electrodes in a chemical solution for 3–5 hours. E-Cleaner N has a different formula from standard E-Cleaner — it is specifically designed for the JR IV.

What you need: 1 sachet of E-Cleaner N powder (note: different from the powder for K8/SD501DX!), 200 ml of water, a cup or container approx. 300 ml, 3–5 hours of time.

  1. 1

    Prepare the E-Cleaner N Solution

Pour 200 ml of lukewarm tap water into a cup. Add 1 sachet of E-Cleaner N powder (not standard E-Cleaner) and stir for 1 minute until fully dissolved.

  2. 2

    Switch Off the Ionizer

Make sure the JR IV ionizer is switched off. If it was recently used, wait a moment for it to complete its brief auto-cleaning cycle.

  3. 3

Disconnect the Hose from the Adapter

Remove the water inlet hose from the kitchen faucet adapter (at the sink or kitchen tap). The hose will be submerged in the solution.

  4. 4

Submerge the Hose End in the Solution

Insert the end of the inlet hose into the cup with the E-Cleaner N solution. Make sure the hose reaches the bottom of the cup — the submerged connector must be covered by the solution.

  5. 5

    Soak for 3–5 Hours

Leave the ionizer with the submerged hose for 3–5 hours. You can do this overnight or during the day when you are not using the water. The solution slowly penetrates the electrodes and dissolves accumulated limescale.

  6. 6

Remove the Hose and Reconnect to the Adapter

Once soaking time has elapsed, remove the hose from the cup and reconnect it to the water faucet adapter at the sink or kitchen tap.

  7. 7

    Flush the Ionizer

Turn on the tap and run at least 5 litres of water through the ionizer in plain water mode to thoroughly rinse the electrodes and hose of any remaining E-Cleaner N solution.

  8. 8

    Check Kangen Water Parameters

Generate Kangen water at pH 9.5 and measure the ORP. It should read -300 mV or more negative — a sign that the electrodes are clean and working correctly. With heavily scaled electrodes, the first cleaning may not fully restore performance — repeat after a week if needed.

⚠️ Important: The JR IV requires E-Cleaner N (with the letter N) — not the standard E-Cleaner used for the K8 and SD501DX. Using the wrong powder may be ineffective or damage the electrodes. Contact your distributor to order the correct product.

Filter Replacement — Leveluk JR IV

The JR IV is equipped with a filter that needs regular replacement. The ionizer signals when a replacement is due via the indicator on the device panel.

Filter Lifespan

6,000 litres

At approx. 10 l/day usage, this is around 1.5 years. The ionizer signals when replacement is required — do not ignore this notification.

  1. 1

Disconnect Water and Remove Ionizer from Mount

Turn off the tap, disconnect the hose and remove the ionizer from its wall mount or stand to gain convenient access to the filter chamber.

  2. 2

    Open the Filter Chamber

Locate the filter chamber cover at the bottom of the device. Rotate anti-clockwise and pull out the old filter cartridge.

  3. 3

    Insert the New Filter

Remove the new filter from its packaging and insert it into the chamber following the flow direction markings. Close the cover by rotating clockwise until firm.

  4. 4

    Reset the Filter Indicator

Consult the JR IV user manual or call me — I will show you how to reset the filter counter on your specific device model.

  5. 5

    Flush the New Filter

Reconnect the ionizer, turn on the tap and run 3–5 litres of water through it to flush the new filter and activate the filter media.

Frequently Asked Questions — JR IV Cleaning

What is the difference between E-Cleaner and E-Cleaner N?
E-Cleaner (for K8 and SD501DX) is designed for automatic cleaning cycles in larger ionizers. E-Cleaner N (for JR IV) has a different formula suited to the soaking method — it is less chemically aggressive because it acts over a longer contact time with the electrodes. Do not swap these powders between models.
Can I soak the electrodes for longer than 5 hours?
The manufacturer recommends 3–5 hours. Soaking overnight (8–10 hours) is acceptable for heavily scaled electrodes, but should not become routine practice. Excessively long contact with the solution could potentially affect the device seals. Stick to the recommended time.
How often should I clean the JR IV?
Every 1–2 weeks is recommended. With hard water or heavy use, even weekly. A good indicator is the ORP of the Kangen water: if it drops below -300 mV, the electrodes probably need cleaning.
My JR IV is not producing negative ORP after cleaning — what should I do?
If ORP is still insufficient after one cleaning cycle, repeat the procedure after 3–7 days of normal use. With heavily scaled electrodes, 2–3 cleaning cycles may be necessary. If the problem persists, contact me on +48 607 613 633 — a service inspection may be required.
The JR IV is my first ionizer — how long before I need to clean it?
First E-Cleaning is usually not needed for 12–24 months under normal use with average water hardness. Regularly check the ORP of the water — it is the best indicator of electrode condition. If ORP is within normal range (-300 mV or more negative), the electrodes are clean and cleaning is not yet necessary.
Where can I buy E-Cleaner N for the JR IV?
E-Cleaner N is available exclusively through authorised Enagic distributors. Contact me on +48 607 613 633 — I can send it by courier nationwide or you can collect in person.
